Cotton, Satin or Viscose? A Sleepwear Fabric Guide
Start with composition, construction and the customer’s intended use.
Fibre and construction are different
Cotton, silk, viscose and polyester describe fibres. Jersey and satin describe fabric constructions. A satin finish alone does not identify the fibre composition.
Cotton and cotton blends
Cotton can be used in knit or woven sleepwear. Blending it with other fibres changes properties such as stretch, drape and care requirements. Confirm the actual composition and weight.
Satin and silk
Satin is selected for its smooth surface and sheen and may be made from different fibres. If silk is required, specify the silk percentage and the agreed fabric standard.
Viscose and stretch blends
Viscose-based materials and stretch blends offer other options for drape and ease. Compare fabric swatches and samples, then confirm care instructions and the final specification.
